About the Dogo Argentino
The Dogo Argentino, also called the Argentine Dogo and Argentinian Mastiff, is a large, loyal dog and an excellent guardian for the home and family. The Dogo originated in Argentina during the 1920's when Dr. Antonio Nores Martinez desired to create a large, muscular dog that would be an excellent pack hunter while also being good with children. Dogos are very agile, protective, and strong. Their white coat is short with no undercoat. Occasionally, Dogos may have black spotting or patches on the head or ears, preferably covering less than 10% of the head. Skin pigmentation is pink, often with black freckling. The nose is black and eye color can vary from dark brown to hazel. Eyes should be rimmed with either pink or black. The ears are large and floppy and are often cropped to a triangular shape so they stand erect. The tail is long and naturally carried low. What resulted from the various breeds used to create the Dogo is a beautiful, unique and amazingly strong dog.
Dogos are playful and good with children while also highly intelligent and powerful. This breed needs lots of exercise and a loving and consistent handling, resulting in a well-mannered dog. It's true. We absolutely love Dogos. Having owned Dogos for over 10 years, we can say there is nothing we dislike about the breed. Intelligent, powerful, and protective while also affectionate, loyal, and even comical, the Dogo is truly a remarkably unique dog.
